📚🐝 Year 5 Spelling Bee Champions! 🐝📚 A huge congratulations to all our amazing Year 5 students who took part in today’s Spelling Bee! The competition was fierce, the words were tricky, and the energy in the room was electric. After an exciting series of rounds spelling words like rhinoceros, reconnaissance, pharmaceutical, acupuncture, haemoglobin, and unconscious, we’re thrilled to announce our winners: 🥇 Malala Team B — 1st Place 🥈 Acutis Team A — 2nd Place Well done to all our incredible spellers for your focus, courage, and teamwork. Our Year 7 Project Nova students had an enriching day at the Young Australians’ Cancer Initiative (YACI) High School Symposium. Held at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, students toured world-class medical research facilities, explored cutting-edge equipment, and engaged in hands-on workshops and lectures focused on melanoma research, including developments in diagnostics, radiation, and immunotherapy. This incredible experience gave our young innovators a glimpse into the future of medical science and the impact of research in saving lives

Project Nova kicked off Term 4 with an engaging session on Academic Literacy, led by Dr Jeremy Koay from the Australian Catholic University (Global and Education Pathways). Dr Koay, who holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics, guided students through strategies to strengthen their academic writing and critical thinking skills. Students explored how effective academic writing depends on context - understanding audience, purpose, and discipline conventions to communicate ideas with clarity and impact. At St Luke’s, being a true pre‑school to post‑school community means ensuring every learner’s journey is connected, purposeful, and future‑focused. One of the biggest questions we’ve asked ourselves is, “If pre-school is part of who we are, what does post-school look like?” Over the past six years, our answer has taken shape through programs that give students early access to real-world experiences, career pathways, and the confidence to step into life beyond school with purpose. We intentionally design opportunities that allow students to understand themselves deeply — who they are, what they can do, and what problems they want to solve — so that when they leave St Luke’s, they do so with direction, confidence, and capability. Starting as early as Stage 3, our students engage in career exploration through Become Education, a research-informed program that introduces them to the infinite possibilities of careers. By Year 9, students can choose Preliminary HSC VET courses such as Hospitality or Entertainment as electives, helping them develop skills and qualifications linked to their future goals. In Year 10, students studies both Design and Technology and Work Studies Preliminary HSC, ensuring they are work ready, confident problem-solvers, and prepared for what’s next. This structure enables students to complete up to five Preliminary HSC and two HSC units before officially beginning Year 11. The result? More flexibility and time to explore subjects deeply in their senior years, and greater opportunity to engage in early university programs, TAFE courses, or additional certifications. Our partnerships extend beyond school. St Luke’s proudly partners with Macquarie University, Australian Catholic University (ACU), and Western Sydney University, enabling many of our students to engage in university courses as early as Year 10. These experiences often lead to early guaranteed entry and can even allow students to bypass ATAR requirements for selected university degrees across a range of disciplines. This approach has opened doors for our students, who’ve used their time to pursue alternative pathways. These include diplomas, traineeships, and qualifications in industries such as engineering, business, beauty, business, childcare, retail, animal care, acute care, and design. At St Luke’s, every student graduates with a clear, personalised post-school pathway plan, built through the support of our Post School Pathways Advisors and the Life Design program. Through these, students explore purpose, strengths, and future impact — supported by early HSC commencement, industry partnerships, and real-world problem solving. We believe in the power of “you can be what you can see.” By connecting students with professionals, real workplace experiences, and meaningful discussions about their future, we help bridge the gap between school and life beyond it. By embedding career exploration and pathway planning into the school curriculum, St Luke's empowers students to engage meaningfully with their future careers and post-school opportunities well before graduation.
