‘It’s pretty unusual’: Inside the creative ways HSC students are studying

The water at Dee Why is crystal clear, the waves begging to be surfed. But HSC student Thanos Kingsley sits on the sand, his surfboard ditched to the side, head buried in notes. On the other side of the city, in a Marrickville pizza shop, another student sticks his English quotes around the store and solves maths equations between orders.

Congratulations to our students who have received early university offers! 👏 These are just some of the students who have already secured a place at university before sitting their final exams - an incredible achievement that reflects their hard work and dedication. At St Luke's, we give our students a competitive edge and are proud to be one of the schools offering the opportunity to participate in programs such as ACU Step-Up and WSU Academy U. These programs allow students to complete a first-year university subject, earn credit toward a degree, and, in many cases, secure an early university offer. We also support students applying for early offers through other pathways like Leaders and Achievers at MQU and the Early Entry Program at UTS to maximise their chance of success.

We are proud to announce that three of our students have been shortlisted for possible inclusion in NESA’s SHAPE Exhibition 2025. This is a state-wide exhibition that highlights the most innovative and high-quality HSC Major Projects from Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles and Design. ✨ Our Year 6 students took another big step in exploring future pathways through our partnership with Become Education. We were honoured to hear from Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Bard Bunting, who shared his journey into politics, and to welcome Liv Pennie, Founder of Become Education. Thank you also to the many community members who led panel conversations on careers in paramedicine, midwifery, tertiary education, IT, finance and education. A special thanks to our amazing Year 9 Hospitality team and Mrs Mayer for catering the event so beautifully. 👏

On Friday night our Year 9 Academy U students and their families attended the welcome ceremony at Western Sydney University, Parramatta South Campus. The Academy U program gives students the chance to build real-world skills, connect with peers from different schools, participate in workshops, and complete a university subject while still in high school. It was an evening of learning, connection, and celebration as our Year 9 cohort began their Academy U journey. Thank you to all who were part of this special occasion and helped make the start of the program so memorable. We are very proud of our Year 9 students and can’t wait to see all they achieve over the next few years!
